Russian Grammar 101 – Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns ( я, мы, ты, Вы, вы, он, она, оно, они)

In Russian language pronouns are words that are used to replace other nouns or pronouns to simplify a sentence and to avoid repetitions.
Personal pronouns refer to a specific person or a thing you are talking about.

Subjective personal pronoun:
Я – I = я очень люблю путешествовать – I like travelling very much

Ты – you (singular informal) = ты прекрасно готовишь – You cook very well

Он – he, Она – she, Оно – it = Это моя сестра Полина. Она прекрасный врач! – This is my sister Polina. She is a great doctor!

Вот моя сумка. Она большая и синяя – This is my bag. It is big and blue.

Это папино пальто. Оно очень старое – This is my Dad’s coat. It is very old.

Мы-we = я и Николай настоящие друзья. Мы никогда не ссоримся – Me and Nicolaj are real friends. We never quarrel.

Вы – you (plural or singular formal) = Студентки Смирнова Ольга и Орлова Анастасия, вы можете задать вопросы профессору – Students Smirnova Olga and Orlova Anastasia, you can ask professor your questions.

Attention: when we address to or ask an adult person  we don’t know or we respect – elderly, well-known or even famous, we use the polite pronoun Вы, which should be written with the capital letter = “В”.

Example:
Здравствуйте, Алексей Викторович! Вы не подскажите который час? – Hello, Alexey Victorovich! Could you tell me what time is it?
Они – they = мои родители собираются ко мне приехать. Они очень за меня переживают – My parents are going to visit me here. They are really worried about me.

Now you can say “Sasha lives in Italy, SHE is going to Russia to see her grandparents, THEY will help her to remember Russian language” (Саша живёт в Италии, ОНА собирается поехать в Россию, чтобы увидеться  с бабушкой и дедушкой, ОНИ помогут ей вспомнить русский язык)

instead of

“Саша живёт в Италии, Саша поехала в Россию увидеться с бабушкой и дедушкой, бабушка с дедушкой помогут Саше вспомнить русский язык” (Sasha lives in Italy, Sasha is going to see grandparents, grandparents will help Sasha to remember Russian language).
